Summary of Removal of Refractory Organics in Water Treatment

Refractory organic matter refers to the slow rate of decomposition by microorganisms, which decomposes incomplete organic matter (also includes metabolites of certain organic matter). The effective secondary treatment process mainly removes all biodegradable organic substances in sewage, and its removal rate is generally about 90%. Difficult-to-biodegrade organics generally cannot be removed during secondary treatment. These organic substances are easily enriched in organisms and become potential sources of water pollution. In the advanced sewage treatment process, it is necessary to effectively remove the refractory organic matter in the secondary treated water. The refractory organic substances in the secondary treated water are mostly lignin, humus, ethers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzidine, halomethane, methyl blue active substances (MBAS), herbicides and pesticides (such as DDT), etc. For the removal of these substances, it is suitable to use activated carbon adsorption and ozone oxidation from the perspective of economic rationality and technical feasibility.

(1) Activated carbon adsorption Activated carbon is a hydrophobic adsorbent prepared from carbon-based substances as raw materials, through high temperature carbonization and activation. Activated carbon contains a large number of micropores and has a huge specific surface area. It has high treatment efficiency for some difficult-to-remove substances in sewage, such as surfactants, phenolic pesticides, dyes, refractory organics and heavy metal ions.

(2) Ozone Oxidation Ozone is a strong oxidant and is often used in the treatment of secondary treated water for reuse. It can oxidize and remove residual organic matter in sewage. Such as protein, amino acid, lignin, humic acid, dye, etc. It can also be used to sterilize the treated water. If you want to improve the treatment effect, you should consider the technical measures of removing suspended solids by sand filtration. High-concentration zero-discharge sewage treatment equipment.
